We invite you to visit the George Fuller House B&B Inn, located on the Causeway at 148 Main Street, in the heart of Essex. Boston is 30 miles to the south and we are only a 45-minute ride from Logan International Airport.
This 1830 Federal style house was built by Essex shipwrights with the same pride and craftsmanship used to built the famous "Essex built" schooners. It retains many of its fine architectural features including folding Indian shutters, working fireplaces, original panelling and wood carvings. Three porches and a balcony give access to the outside and a splendid view of the salt marsh and the Essex River beyond. On a high course tide the flooded marsh reaches the border of our gently rolling lawn.
Our seven charming guest rooms are furnished with antiques and period reproductions. Four of our guest rooms include cozy fireplaces. Each room has a unique atmosphere with features such as brass and canopy beds, braided rugs, and hand-carved Boston rockers. All rooms have private baths, individual heat/air conditioning, color TV, and telephones. The fireplace in the living room offers a warm response to cool New England evenings.
We begin each day with a full complimentary country breakfast. Enjoy such specialties as cranberry muffins, Belgian waffles, fresh baked breads, fresh fruit, and many other inn favorites. Coffee, tea, and cool drinks are served in the late afternoon in one of the common areas suitable to the season. Guests may relax and enjoy conversation in any of the public rooms or porches. We also offer inn-wide wifi access.
Local Attractions
Essex is rich in maritime history; sailing vessels have been built here since
the early 17th Century. Most of Gloucester's famous schooners were "Essex
Built". The nearby Essex Shipbuilding Museum preserves much of this heritage.
At the George Fuller House we continue this relationship with and love of
the ocean by maintaining a cruising sailboat which is available for sailing
lessons and day sails. We invite you to inquire about sailing opportunities.
Shell fish from local clam flats and fish caught in the cool waters off
Cape Ann provide the freshest of seafood to the many fine, award-winning
restaurants in the area. To satisfy your desire to shop, there are over 50
antique dealers in town. Sports lovers will enjoy nearby opportunities for
golf, swimming, tennis, fishing, and sailing.
Boston, with its many sight including the Freedom Trail, Fanueil Hall, the square-rigged frigate Constitution "Old Ironsides", is easily accessible by highway or public transportation. Salem, the "Witch City" with 350 years of history, is a great place to see the sights or just "sit a spell." The neighboring port of Gloucester offers whale watching cruises which guarantee the sightings of these magnificent mammals. Rockport's art colony and Motif No. 1 are a short drive from Essex. Crane Beach in Ipswich is one of North America's finest beaches; four miles of sand dunes welcome sun worshippers.
Cape Ann is beautiful in all season; therefore, we're open year 'round. Our rates range from $115 to $175 for double occupancy. Holidays and weekends require a two-night minimum stay. Reduced rates are available from November until mid-May except for holiday periods. We offer:
